Katie reminded us all that our bodies are beautiful.
That concept is a hard one for so many of us.
This episode will crack open and shake things up for you just as it did for me.
Katie is a reiki practitioner, a somatic psychotherapist, a good time, and a great influence. Thanks so much for joining us, Katie!!
If you’re new around here, hi! I’m Emily, your favorite longevity obsessed dietitian and private practice owner. As health is often the missing piece in successful adult’s lives, my work exists to close that gap.
I’m so glad you’re here!
Show notes:
Befriending your body is foundational. This includes your relationship with food, movement, habits, etc. Rooting this relationship in kindness and unity is not something most of us were taught. (minute 1)
Laughter is healing. Can you find more moments of genuine joy, play, and laughter (rain, trampolines, sports, games, music, animals, kids) this week? (minute 2-3)
Sympathetic arousal (fight/flight) uses a lot of energy, and a lot of us are in it way more than we need to be. (minute 4-5)
Your body’s signals are communication, not problems. This concept is deeply life changing. If you only take one thing away from this today, let it be this. (minute 6-7 and sprinkled throughout)
You’re not a metric. Said another way: you’re not the sum of your metrics. ;) (minute 17)
Hunger cues & more on internal cues and communication. (minute 24)
Resilience. (minute 30)
Consistency as safety and the key to health, freeing rather than limiting. (minute 31)
Alternatives to meditation and a minor walk through of a somatic awareness practice you can do today. (starts minute 35)
More on somatic work. (minute 44 and throughout)
Tools & tactics for somatics because I couldn’t help myself. (minute 47)
The role of social media and phones. Constant screen time leads to more “open loops”including unfinished thoughts, unresolved feelings, which keeps us in chronic hyper-arousal (and the host of issues that come with it). (minute 64)
